APRIL IS THE FUNNIEST MONTH...

April is the cruelest month”, says T S Eliot. For me it is the FUNNIEST.
All walk away from our lives in the path of life and only few remain inside our hearts: forever!
Last April, when I was busy cooking meal for the day, all of a sudden I heard somebody knocking my door. I opened the door. I saw a weak and lean woman in her tattered clothes. As soon se she saw me, she started weeping. Her eyes were full of tears. I asked kya hua? She did not reply. I was confused.
She indicated that she was deaf and dumb. I was feeling uncomfortable. I suspected she might ask something and there she did exactly that. She asked for money in a kind of sign language.
She explained she was poor and had not taken food for three days. I felt bad for her but wasn’t in a mood to part away even with a single penny. I explained that I was also a poor boy. The way she looked at me made me feel guilty as if she was saying,” LIAR!” But I pretended as if nothing happened.
I agreed to give her some Rice. She showed her refusal to acknowledge my offer. She wanted money. I was unenthusiastic to give her that. My friends had gathered around by that time. They saw me communicating in a so called sign-language. “Dost aaya hai madad kar do, my friends teased me when they come to know about the state of affairs.
They even laughed at me calling kanjus when I refused to give her money. Nevertheless, when she smelled that I was not in a mood to change my mind, she agreed to accept rice. But she also demanded for a plate. I was annoyed.I refused and asked her to go away.
Everything was as usual but she re-appeared after few days and asked for help. As usual, I gave her two glasses of rice.
The saga continued for few more days……
One day I was not in my room. When I reached my room, my friends teased me saying, Tumhara best friend aaya thaa. I did understand. They explained that the same woman had come. I was sick of this strange woman. I prayed “hey bhagwaan yeh kaun peeche pad gaya” but even god did not answer. She kept coming every now and then.
One evening I left the office before time. I was in a hurry to reach Nirjuli. I reached the tempo stand in Nahrlagun. I saw a crowd. When I went near the crowd, I was stunned. I saw the same women. I was infuriated and angry to see her. She was making a scene over there. She was not a deaf and dumb and saw her speaking and shouting at some men. I went nearer to her. When she saw me, her expression changed at once. She fooled me all those days!
